Guilford County Animal Shelter Therapy Park Finished

Greensboro, NC -- Injured animals in Guilford County now have a safe place to rehab and recover.  The Guilford County Animal Shelter's Therapy Park is now finished. The park will be a place to help socialize the animals and give injured animals a safe place to run around while they recover. The park features special pet turf that will help neutralize odors and won't show wear and tear from the animals.

Charles McClintock, Landscaping / Maintenance Manager for Southern Exposure Landscaping, said, "Its just its alternate to having a mud pit in the backyard. Its always gonna be green, and its never gonna be hard to grow grass on cause its just plush like it it is."

The crews finished construction in less than a week, but they still have some more grass to put down in the spring. The therapy park will be open to the public. Contact the animal shelter for details on the hours of operation.

Therapy Park Construction To Begin

Greensboro, NC -- The Guilford County Animal Shelter is just days away from getting a new therapy park.

Southern Exposure Landscape Management starts working Tuesday morning to build the animals a new workout area. Shelter employees said they needed a place to work with, socialize, and exercise the animals -- and the cold weather won't stop the project.

Marsha Williams, Director of the Guilford County Animal Shelter said, "They're gonna brave the cold to try to get it finished before the holiday. [...] He said the cold is no harder than working in the extreme heat, so they're excited about getting started."

Southern Exposure Landscapers donated their time and supplies. And thanks to public donations, the animal shelter collected the majority of the money they need to pay the difference.

Guilford County Animal Shelter Gets Therapy Park

The Guilford County Animal Shelter is getting a Therapy Park. Southern Exposure Landscape Management along with its vendors are building the park to give back to the community.

On Friday they are delivering pallets of stone to the shelter to begin work. Stone and plant vendors are donating the majority of the products and Southern Exposure is supplying the labor free to the shelter.

The total cost of this project is valued over $25,000 but will cost the Shelter $3,400. Donations have started coming in to the shelter to cover this amount.

The Therapy Park will provide a fun place for animals and volunteers. There will also be an agility course to give the dogs a job and help with the stress of living with so many animals.

The idea of a Therapy Park came about when the shelter received the Beagles that were rescued from the Lab Testing Facility earlier this year. Volunteers came to the shelter to spend time with the beagles but they didn't have a place to socialize.

Animal Shelter to Build Therapy Park for Dogs

The Guilford County Animal Shelter is building a new outdoor therapy park so dogs can start acting like dogs again.

Dogs at the shelter often live under cramped conditions, so Southern Exposure Landscape Management has given the shelter a big discount to build the park.

Construction will begin construction next week, with plans to have it ready for Christmas.

Nearly all of the $3,400 cost has already been raised.

WFMY News 2 (12-9-10)

Greensboro, NC -- The Guilford County Animal Shelter will get a new therapy park.

The need for the extra space arose when the shelter took in abused beagles from a research lab in Eastern North Carolina. Shelter volunteers wanted a place to work with, socialize, and exercise the animals. Now they'll get it thanks to Southern Exposure Landscape Management, Inc. The shelter announced the company will build the special therapy park.

Marsha Williams, Director of the Guilford County Animal Shelter said the park is great news for the animals. "This is gonna give them an opportunity to relieve some of the stress of being in the kennel. So we're gonna be able to work with them and give them jobs to do, and exercise in a clean and wonderful environment."

The total cost of the project is valued at more than $25,000. But Southern Exposure's employees and vendors are donating the majority of their time and supplies. That means it'll only cost the shelter $3,400. You can help them pay that off, by donating to Therapy Park/Susie's Miracle Fund. To donate, click here.

Williams says the 'Southern Exposure Therapy Park' will be ready by Christmas.
